About Kane Elswick

Supporting good businesses.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners are able to add a lot of good to the world. Customers, employees, vendors, and the greater community all benefit from a well-run business. We started this firm to provide you with the legal support and confidence to realize that potential.

Good businesses don’t spring up through red tape by accident.  Confusing laws make everyone’s lives harder—so we relish the opportunity to demystify legal texts and guide clients through tangled statutes and regulations. Whether it is explaining the law or coming up with creative solutions for your specific problems—we’re there to help.

As Cincinnati lawyers, we love our city. We’re committed to helping you do good business in our community.

Riley Kane

I’m a Cincinnati native. I love the city, the region, and I don’t want to be anywhere else. I enjoy the practice of law for two reasons. First, I like explanatory and argumentative writing—especially when I get to convert confusing legalese into plain English. Second, I enjoy being able to help by dispassionately analyzing problems and then telling it like it is.

In my view, that’s why people need lawyers. If the law was clear, we wouldn’t be necessary. Most people have better things to do with their time, I just happen to enjoy this kind of work.

Aside from law, I enjoy continuing to study history (on lots of topics, but often 19th Century America and Europe), gardening, and interesting conversations with my friends over a good beer (and Cincinnati has plenty!).

Samuel D. Elswick, Jr

I am a creative person by nature. Instead of studying a typical “pre-law” major, I studied film and learned how to tell visual stories. When I later attended law school at Ohio State, I selected courses focusing on the creating aspects of law such as business formation, trademarks, and real estate development. I quickly came to realize that I wanted to practice business law. Fortuitously, I was accepted into my law school’s entrepreneurial business clinic, where I had the pleasure of serving as counsel for multiple new startups and small businesses who had a variety of legal needs ranging from routine LLC formations to a profit-sharing agreement for an international business venture. After this experience with the clinic, I knew I wanted to found my own firm to provide personalized legal services to entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses.

After law school, I returned to Cincinnati. It was a familiar place that had been my home for a good portion of my childhood where I have many fond memories. When I returned, I re-discovered the timeless city that I enjoyed in my youth, but more importantly, I discovered real community that welcomed me with open arms. While I was not born a Cincinnatian, I have adopted this place wholeheartedly as my home and have no desire to be any place else.

When I am not lawyering, I enjoy reading, brewing beer (particularly German styles), and hosting dinner parties for my close friends.
